What is a good engagement rate on X?

Use these illustrative ranges to sanity-check a post—then verify with your own analytics. We do not invent study statistics.

Engagement rate answers “of the people who could interact, how many did?” On X, the cleanest post-level view is interactions divided by impressions.

Illustrative impression-rate ranges

Labeled illustrative only — not cited research. TODO: replace with sources you trust (and date them).

  • Below ~0.5% — may be normal for broad reach or cold audiences; check creative and hook.
  • ~0.5%–2% — common planning band many creators treat as “healthy” for informational posts (illustrative).
  • Above ~2% — often a strong post relative to that account’s baseline (illustrative).

Follower-based rates

Follower rates inflate for small accounts and deflate for large ones. Compare against your last 20–50 posts rather than a global average.

TODO: Add a cited table of follower-rate bands by account size when you have a source.

How to use benchmarks responsibly

  1. Calculate rates for similar post formats only.
  2. Track your median, not just outliers.
  3. Pair timing experiments with the best-time guide.

FAQ

What counts as a good engagement rate on X?+

It depends on impressions vs followers, niche, and content type. Use the illustrative ranges on this page as planning baselines, then replace them with your own post history or cited sources.

Why don’t you publish exact industry averages?+

Public “average engagement rate” figures change quickly and are often poorly sourced. We refuse to invent statistics. TODO: add cited benchmarks from your preferred research providers.

Impression rate or follower rate?+

Impression rate is usually more meaningful for individual posts. Follower rate helps compare accounts of similar size when impression data is missing.
