X uses a weighted length capped at 280. Most Latin letters count as 1. Many emoji and non-Latin characters count as 2. http/https URLs are transformed to t.co links and count as 23 characters.
Do all links count as 23 characters?+
http and https URLs are counted as 23 regardless of visible length. Other schemes may not get the same treatment—prefer https links when drafting.
Why does my phone app disagree slightly?+
Clients can differ on edge cases (complex emoji sequences, trailing punctuation on URLs). This tool follows common twitter-text weighting defaults.
